Crete means extremity and is used for objects representing extremities such the roof of a building, the suburbs of a town, the periphery of the countryside or the frontiers of a geographical domain. The current name of the island of Crete is a cognate of the Greek akrē (extremity, frontier) and derives from the Byzantine word akrētēs (frontiersman); the Modern Greek toponym is a re-borrowing from Arabic. Knossos is pottery, including Ω-shaped containers and roof-tiles; the word is also used for roof. Labrys is a Greek word used for forestry double-axe. Labyrinth is also a Greek word used for a ploughed field and any object presenting patterns and made of units, e.g. a building made of rooms and walls, town planning, street layout etc. metaphorically, the word means hard labor; hence, labyrinth is a cognate of European cognates of the English labour and the French labourage. Daedalus is the valley divided into distinct fields; metaphorically, a socio-economic system based on land property. Icarus is the cereal ear and the crops, in general. Minos means up-and-down arm/edge movement and is generally used for any manual work or any object presenting slopes (e.g. a roof; ‘king of crete’). Pasiphae means opening holes in the ground, digging and planting, and is also used for the related tools (spade, pale, wooden stake etc.) or sowing grains; but it also means wage, day's pay. The wage (Pasiphae) is combined (falls in love) with the rate (Taurus), and the two create the Minotaur, i.e. the rate of wage, the day's pay, as well as the work stress. The Minotaur (both, the day’s pay rate and work stress) was ‘killed’ by Theseus, a cheap-labor source, with the aid of the ‘mitos’ of Ariadne. Ariadne is for a headland, path, street, road; her mitos is a Greek word for network; the ‘mitos of Ariadne’ (currently translated as ‘Ariadne's thread’) actually means a road network. Naxos is a node, connection; it is a cognate of the Latin nexus and the English connection. The mytheme of the marriage of Dionysus with Ariadne represents prostitution (street sex). Malia means leak. Amnisos represents a container or drain where leaking rain-water is collected. Deucalion is the roof-valley, an architectural element which is supposed to drive rainwater to collection but can cause calamity in the house when it leaks (the deluge of Deucalion).
